Direct answer

Intracut LED panels combine detailed graphics with a shallow sign body

An intracut panel uses routed openings in a folded ACM or aluminium face with opal backing or push-through acrylic, illuminated from an LED backing panel. It is a practical alternative when artwork contains smaller text or detail that does not suit individually fabricated letters.

Construction

A routed face over a serviceable light chamber

The face panel provides colour and shape while the opal or push-through components define the illuminated artwork. The rear assembly carries LEDs, wiring and mounting provisions.

  • Folded ACM for cost-effective panel construction
  • Fabricated aluminium where added durability or finish control is required
  • Opal backing for flush illuminated cut-outs
  • Push-through acrylic for raised illuminated detail

Build options

Choose flush or raised illumination

Artwork complexity, daytime appearance and desired depth determine whether cut-outs receive rear opal backing, push-through acrylic or a combination.

  • Flush intracut graphics with opal backing
  • Raised push-through letters and logos
  • Painted, wrapped or pre-finished panel faces
  • Standalone panel or integrated fascia/staging system

Installation planning

Intracuts are typically mounted to a wall or frame

The installer needs a clear fixing strategy and a way to reach LEDs, drivers and wiring. We provide our standard intracuts in a shoebox format to allow for easy installation and servicing.

  • Provide wall or frame mounting details
  • Confirm cable entry and mounting hole locations for pre-drilled holes
  • Our standard design formats allow for very fast installation

Size and project limits

Panel stock, folds and transport determine size

Large faces may require joints, internal framing or modular transport sections. Very fine cut-outs need enough web strength between routed details, typical minimum stroke width is 2mm. Its recommended to reduce the acrylic thickness down to 6mm for signs with smaller details for better light transmission. Send full-size artwork so sheet layout, push-through depth and lighting can be reviewed together.

Indicative guidance only. Final dimensions, structure, illumination and freight splits are confirmed against artwork, site conditions and engineering requirements at quote stage.

Decision help

Intracut panel or fabricated letters?

Choose an intracut panel when Choose fabricated letters when
Artwork includes smaller text or closely spaced detail Individual dimensional letters are central to the design
A continuous coloured fascia is useful The wall should remain visible between characters
A cost-effective integrated illuminated panel is required Greater letter depth and separate mounting are required

Quote-ready brief

What to send for an intracut panel quote

  • Outlined artwork and overall panel size
  • ACM or aluminium face preference
  • Flush opal or push-through detail requirements

FAQ

Common trade questions about Intracut LED Panel

What is the difference between intracut and push-through?

Intracut describes artwork routed through the panel face. Opal can sit behind the opening for a flush result, or acrylic can push through the opening to create raised illuminated detail.

Why choose this instead of fabricated letters?

It handles smaller or more detailed artwork and can combine the sign face, illumination and mounting into one integrated panel. It can also keep the budget under control by using less material and fabrication time as opposed to fabricated letters.

Can panels be made larger than one sheet?

Yes, but joins, framing, illumination and transport splits need to be designed around the artwork and installation.

Can it be used outdoors?

Yes, when the face material, frame, sealing, drainage, LEDs and service method are specified for the exposure.
