Build Your Own Vinyl Storage Racks

Free CNC files for two workshop vinyl racks: a floor-mounted vertical stand for 40 standard rolls, and a horizontal rack using 20mm aluminium tube with 3D-printed end caps.

Organised vinyl storage, cut on your router

Vinyl rolls lean, roll and eat floor space unless you give them a dedicated home. These two racks are what we run in our own workshop: a floor-mounted vertical stand for 40 standard rolls, and a horizontal rack that cradles rolls on 15mm aluminium tube. Both cut from 20mm PVC board. Files are free to download.

Cut everything from 20mm PVC board. Use PVC or acrylic glue for permanent joints. Optional: fit castors to the vertical rack base so you can move a full load around the shop.

Floor-mounted vertical rack (40 rolls)

Holds 40 standard vinyl rolls upright on interlocking inserts glued into the base.

Parts list

  • 1 × base board — 20mm PVC (from the cut file)
  • 80 × inserts — 20mm PVC: 40 male and 40 female
  • PVC or acrylic glue
  • Optional: castors / wheels and fixings for the base

Assembly

  1. Cut the base and all 80 inserts from 20mm PVC using the supplied files.
  2. Pair each male insert with a female insert. Glue each pair together to form one complete peg (40 pegs total).
  3. Glue each assembled peg into the base from the underside so it sits proud on top and locks the cardboard core of each roll.
  4. Allow glue to cure fully before loading rolls.
  5. Optional: fit wheels to the base if you want the rack mobile.

Horizontal vinyl rack

Ten aluminium poles span between two notched uprights. Rolls slide on and off from the front. 3D-printed end caps stop the tubes sliding out of the notches.

Parts list

  • 1 × base board — 20mm PVC
  • 2 × uprights — 20mm PVC (notched for the tubes)
  • 2 × triangle braces — 20mm PVC (one per upright)
  • 10 × aluminium tube — 20mm OD, 1.6mm wall, 1300mm long
  • 20 × 3D-printed end caps (two per tube) Recommend to print from PETG or similar strength material
  • PVC or acrylic glue
  • Screws suitable for 20mm PVC

The cut files include 5mm-deep alignment pockets on the top of the base and the bottom of each upright so the uprights locate cleanly before gluing and screwing.

Assembly

  1. Cut the base, uprights and triangle braces from 20mm PVC.
  2. Seat each upright into the matching 5mm pocket on the base. Glue and screw.
  3. Fit one triangle brace behind each upright — flush to the upright face and the base — then glue and screw.

  1. Print 20 end caps. Fit one cap into each end of every 1300mm tube.
  2. Drop each tube into a matching pair of notches. The cap flanges sit outside the uprights and stop the poles walking out.
  3. Load rolls onto the poles as needed. Empty poles can stay in place for the next colour.

Quick tips

  • Dry-fit pockets and braces before glue — the 5mm pockets do the alignment work for you.
  • Wipe PVC dust off glue faces; a clean joint is a strong joint.
  • If you add wheels to the vertical rack, choose lockable castors so a loaded stand does not roll while you pull a roll.

Download the pack, cut the PVC, and get the rolls off the floor.
