Material Selection Guide for Australian Conditions

Understanding which materials perform best in different Australian environments and applications.

Material selection significantly impacts signage performance and longevity in Australian conditions. We offer a range of materials and fabrication methods to suit your specific needs, upon quoting we will make recommendations based on your requirements.

**EcoSteel™ Development: Meeting Australian Standards**

Recognising the need for improved performance in Australian conditions, we developed EcoSteel™ as an alternative to traditional imported aluminium coil systems. Our research indicated that some existing market solutions may not have been optimally designed for Australia's unique environmental challenges, including extreme UV exposure, temperature variations, and coastal conditions.

EcoSteel™ utilises COLORBOND® steel with BlueScope's Activate® technology, specifically engineered for Australian conditions. This locally-proven material system addresses performance gaps we observed in the market, delivering superior coatings and corrosion resistance - critical failure points in traditional systems.

The development process focused on creating a cost-effective solution that maintains quality standards while providing the 5-year warranty coverage that trade professionals require. EcoSteel™ represents our commitment to continuous improvement and local manufacturing excellence. EcoSteel is the only glued system for trimless letters approved for use in Exterior applications.

Our Hybrid Aluminium fabrication offers excellent versatility for indoor applications. Pre-coated systems provide a cost effective method for adding depth to letters. This fabrication method is recommended only for indoor applications, such as supermarkets, retail stores, and other indoor signage applications.

Stainless steel provides a premium finish option where appearance and durability matter. We typically fabricate in 304 stainless, most often for front-lit and halo-lit letters as a step up from EcoSteel. Powder coat or 2K colour finishes are the usual path; raw brushed or polished stainless is uncommon. Stainless can also be supplied non-illuminated when the approved design calls for it.

Acrylic Fabrication is the tried and tested method for letter fabrication, although overshadowed by more cost effective methods in recent years, this method of fabrication is still highly recommended for its quality and durability.

Aluminium fabrication offers excellent versatility for most applications. For larger signs, aluminium fabrication is the best option. With finishes available in either powder-coated or 2K Sprayed, aluminium fabrication provides a durable and cost-effective solution.

Steel fabrication offers maximum strength for structural applications like pylon signs. Hot-dip galvanizing provides superior corrosion protection, essential for long-term outdoor exposure. Powder coating over galvanizing delivers both protection and aesthetic appeal.
